Job situation improves in nearly every state

Philadelphia Fed chart shows employment status in 50 states

The job situation improved in almost every state over the last three months, according to the latest state coincident indexes report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

The coincident indexes combine four state-level indicators to summarize current economic conditions in a single statistic. The four state-level variables in each coincident index are nonfarm payroll employment, average hours worked in manufacturing, the unemployment rate, and wage and salary disbursements deflated by the consumer price index.

The report cited that over the past three months the indexes increased in 41 states, decreased in eight and remained stable in one.

In the past month, the indexes increased in 35 states, decreased in 10 and remained stable in five.
